My name is James and I live in Columbus, OH but grew up in Indianapolis, IN. I grew up active, having played baseball and track through high school. I worked for print production company in Indianapolis out of high school, and began gaining weight in early twenties during time I got married (Sharron). We have two kids (Easton & Thomas), and moved to Columbus when I switched companies in 1994.
My weight peaked when I was in my forties. At 5’9″, I remember getting on the scale and seeing 240 pounds! I never thought of myself as fat (just “out of shape”) until that day. Tried getting gym membership, but between the new job and kids’ practices, I had a hard time getting into a routine. Sharron and I began being more mindful of the foods we ate, as well as making a point to walk during our kids’ games and practices (when weather permitted it). I lost about 20 pounds, but still wanted to break through that 200 lb. threshold.
I discovered Power 90 (P90) and P90X around 2007. I loved that I was able to do them before work or after dinner when the kids were home. I lost 35 pounds between 2007 and 2010. Currently, I weigh 180 pounds and my body fat is less than 20%. Last year, I completed my first quarter marathon, and love challenging myself physically. I have done just about all of the Beachbody programs, as it is the very best way for me to stay in shape and still juggle work and my family life (which includes our golden retriever Peyton).
I love that the Beachbody programs are still as challenging today as they were ten years ago. I still struggle and see my weight fluctuate, but Beachbody has helped me realize that I am stronger, both physically and mentally, than I was before. I whole-heartily believe in these programs, and hope that my experiences can either inspire or help someone who might be struggling with weight issues. Of course, I love to give tips and tricks to help get people though these workouts, and hope that others find the same passion for fitness as I have.
