The two biggest names in the Home Fitness workout world are P90X and Insanity, and each line’s best products are P90X3 and Insanity Max 30. It’s only fitting that we pit these two programs up against each other to determine which can lay claim to the best home fitness workout series on the market. We analyzed everything from cost to intensity of the workout, as well as effectiveness and which program would be better suited to you, the person doing the workouts. In the end, both P90X3 and Insanity Max 30 have a lot in common, but one has just enough edge over the other to be considered the best!
Key Similarities and Differences
The biggest thing to understand up front is that P90X3 is a 90 day program, whereas Insanity Max 30 last only eight weeks. Both programs ask that you workout six days per week, with one day of rest. Both P90X3 vs Insanity Max 30 feature (roughly) 30 minute workouts, with some pre and post stretching built in that could add a few minutes to your workout.
The thing to know is that both programs will get you sweating early, and will keep you engaged from start to finish. P90X3 has more workouts (total of 16), while Insanity Max 30 has ten workouts that are broken up into two phases. You’ll do five phases the first month, and the second set of more advanced workouts in the second phase. P90X3 uses the same 16 workouts, broken up differently each week, throughout the entire 90 day program.
Another big difference is the style of coaching you will get between Tony Horton (P90X3) and Shaun T (Insanity Max 30). More on that later.
Coaching Style: Insanity Max 30 vs P90X3
A big part of what works for each person is what they respond to in a coach or trainer. Some people like being yelled at like they are in boot camp, and others like to be encouraged through positive reinforcement. Both P90X3 vs Insanity Max 30 fall somewhere in between these two extremes when it comes to coaching, but Tony Horton and Shaun T do have very different styles that work better with certain people.
The Tony Horton, P90X3 style is very encouraging. He doesn’t let you take breaks during the quick P90X3 workout, but he does reiterate that if you need to modify, you can do so as needed. Tony seems more like your buddy who wants to see you succeed and knows that you have the strength inside of you.
Shaun T’s Insanity Max 30 style, on the other hand, is more fast paced and in your face than P90X3. He knows he’s pushing you to your limits and demands that you keep up if you want to change your body. He wants you to push yourself as much as you can bear to do so and max out each exercise until your breaking point. Personally, I love this style of workout, but I also know it can drive people away early on if they don’t have a good fitness foundation.
- P90X3 encouraging and calls on your passion to overcome exhaustion
- Insanity Max 30 demands your 100% from beginning to end
